Laboratory for Chemical Technology
The Lab
Activities and Objectives
The main activities carried out in the Lab include:
- Synthesis and characterization of organic, organometallic compounds and macromolecules (porphyrins, phthalocyanines and fullerenes) to be used as active layers for chemical sensors and biosensors.
- Preparation of organic / inorganic hybrid materials (semiconductor@sensitizer) to be used for the photodegradation of organic micropollutants in water or other matrices.
- Synthesis of fine chemicals from agro-industry waste products (eg by-products of the cashew industry) to be used as precursors or reaction intermediates.
- Synthesis and characterization of Molecularly Imprinted Polymer (MIP) to be used in the analytical, medical-sensor and pharmacological fields.
- Development of new green biosorbents for metal ion pollutants.
- Development of new green catalytic systems for reactions of carbonylations, hydrogenations, etc., which find application in the chemical and pharmaceutical fields.
- Development of new extraction techniques of active ingredients from fruits and vegetables.
